Life and workplace have changed. The tough job market and highly competitive space just turned into a global struggle for all who either lost jobs during Covid-19 & subsequent lockdowns or quit because of a loss of Pay/No Pay/Pay Cuts. Employers around the world have and still continue to cut tens and thousands of jobs as Covid-19 continues to hit the economy hard. New or soon-to-be graduates, freshers or young working professionals who have recently started working have all witnessed the huge adverse global impact on jobs due to Coronavirus. However, the unexpected disruptions should not hold YOU back from empowering yourself with the right information and drive to seek the right job opportunity.

Having said that, how ‘adaptable’ does your CV make you look? After all, it is all about how you ‘sound’ on the CV that makes you either look great or just average. How do you stand above the rest? 1. Keep it Simple – as simple as that!
2. Add industry focussed/Targeted Keywords as part of your Resume
3. Use a professional font (Ex: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, Calibri, Cambria, Gill Sans, Franklin Gothic)
4. Use a file format that is ‘All Software Compatible.’ Tip: Having the Resume in PDF format will ensure that the design/format is not compromised when recruiters receive and open it. But then again, most recruiters use ATS Systems (Applicant Tracking Systems) that may use bots which accept only Word Documents as it is easy for the software to read.
5. Include only relevant & well-summarised information
6. Highlight your skills in bullet points
7. Use positively inclined formal communication that showcases your achievements
8. Never forget to proofread & edit!
9. Customise your Resume to the Job you are applying for
10. Use a user-friendly and easy to recall Email Address
11. Ensure to have correct contact information
12. Have the most recent experience/job listed first (Reverse-chronological Order).
13. Left-align your resume so recruiters find it easy to read
14. Use subheadings to help the reader understand your strengths
15. A must-have: Include URLs to your Social Media Profiles & LinkedIn or a blog you maintain
16. Margins and Framing are as important as what you include as text.
17. Keep your Resume as crisp, short and to the point as possible – not more than 3 Pages if you are experienced. For Freshers limit your CV to not more than 2 pages. (1 Being sufficient).
18. Naming your Resume File helps you with the first impression! (Ex: John_Profile2021.doc)
19. Always have a well-written Covering Letter with the Resume
20. Eliminate jargons. Speak proper, simple & business English that anyone and everyone can read & understand!
