‘Fear’ is the most common emotion that all of us face in almost every situation, every single day. Fear alone is the biggest hurdle for you to achieve success or take that first step forward. Fear of Losing, Fear of not making it to the Top, Fear of Failure, Fear of Defeat, Fear of the Unknown, Fear of being Embarrassed, Fear of just making a mockery out of Oneself… and the list goes on.
While Winning is in your hands, Losing is what controls your head. Your negative thoughts of not being able to WIN, engulfs your mind into creating an illusion that if you do this, you will lose. And during competitions or competitive sports, this is the same fear that athletes and sportsman face. There is the adrenaline rush while competing in a competition that drives you, but as you get closer to the finish line and while you can see your GOAL very clearly, this is when the Fear of Fear takes over, on whether you can make it to the finish line or not.
Most of us have faced this some time or the other but the one important question that we need to ask today is whether we can conquer that Fear or not. A world leader loved by millions, Nelson Mandela said, “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”
It’s good to be afraid, because it proves the point that we care about what we are scared about. The fear of if we can achieve the goals or not, whether we can complete a particular task or not. And most importantly, the fear is when we are taking that big leap in our lives, when we stand at crossroads of our lives when our decision can adversely affect our lives and that of others around us – our family and friends. This is why you need that ‘Courage’ to conquer fear. How does one achieve that, here is a scenario:
You have been preparing for this entrance test for months, and you know that once you finish that and walk out with flying scores, you are 100% sure that your placement in an MNC is confirmed because being a class topper means you are immediately shortlisted. Remember, the keyword here is ‘hard work’ which you have mastered already, and then attend the exam, and are waiting for your results. Your parents are as anxious as you to know the results and your scores. And when you see your scores, your parents are proud while you are happy that your hard work has paid off. But then again, you begin to think, is this what you truly wanted? Did you always wish to be an Engineer, Technical Expert or a Software Professional? Your passion of being a designer beckons you and you want to pursue a career in Creative Designing and wish to be an Art Director. You love to be the Creator of colour, concepts, designs and creatives that can win awards someday. This is the cross road you need to cross over without the FEAR of the unknown.
Most of us are in our comfort zones and refuse to pursue our passion because we lack the courage to take that first step. We know that there are hurdles to Success. Something that pulls us behind or stops us is that fear that we may hurt our family or loved ones if we decide to pursue a career that we are passionate about, because in most cases you are caught between Passion Vs Pay and if you are not financially stable, you opt for a safer job that pays you on time, rather than taking up your passionate job that comes with its own uncertainties or cashflow.
